Why We're in Leek

There is a personal reason why Goddard Dunbar & Associates has such a strong connection to Leek.

Our Managing Director, Jim goddard, has a long-standing connection with the town, having grown up in the area. Returning to Leek and establishing a presence here is, in many ways, a return home.

Born in Leek in 1965, educated at St Mary’s Primary School and Leek High School, local boy James (‘Jim’) Goddard lived at the Cattle Market Inn during the 1970’s with his mother and father Maureen and Michael. In 1986 he joined the Police Service eventually moving away from Leek in 1994. Having changed career in 1999 Jim now brings the concept of a friendly, local law firm back to Leek in the form of Goddard Dunbar.

. Offering property conveyancing, Wills and probate services. Goddard Dunbar are passionate about their clients and offering friendly, reliable and affordable legal services. Jim says ‘we are the girl and boy from next door who remember that our customers pay our wages. I know the people of Leek want good service from a local firm and we at Goddard Dunbar have the knowledge and business culture to deliver that high quality customer service which people so desire’

That personal connection is a big part of why we are so passionate about supporting the local community. We want to be a law firm that not only provides professional legal services to local people and businesses but also plays an active role in the town we are proud to call home.

Us & the Local Foodbanks

We are proud to support Leek Foodbank and the essential work they do for individuals and families across the local community.

Foodbanks provide vital support to people who may be experiencing difficult circumstances, helping ensure that local families have access to essential food and supplies when they need them most.

As a local business, we believe it is important to support organisations that make a genuine difference to the lives of people in the Staffordshire Moorlands. We are pleased to contribute to Leek Foodbank and to support the volunteers who work tirelessly to help those in need.

Therefore, every month we donate over £200 worth of food to those in need, basing our order on their shopping list.

GDA at the Leek Show

The Leek Show is an important part of the local calendar, bringing together the community and celebrating the very best of the Staffordshire Moorlands.

We were delighted to attend the Leek Show in 2025 and are looking forward to being involved again in 2026.

Events like the Leek Show provide an opportunity for local people, families and businesses to come together, and we are proud to support events that bring the community together.

Supporting Kieran Rutters and the Leek Charity Golf Day

We are also passionate about supporting local events that bring businesses and the community together.

We were proud to sponsor the Leek Charity Golf event, including providing a £1,000 cash prize sponsored by Goddard Dunbar & Associates for Kieran Rutter.

Supporting local sporting and fundraising events is another way for us to contribute to the community and help raise money for worthwhile causes.

Furthermore, we hold the Kieran Rutters Trust close to our hearts, and continue to support them in as many ways possible. For the 2026 Leek Show, they are our chosen charity to raise money for alongside the foodbank.

We plan to offer games and prizes to do so!

Coats 4 Christmas

We are passionate about supporting people experiencing homelessness and those facing difficult circumstances, which is why we launched our Coats for Christmas campaign.

Now in its fourth year, the campaign brings together businesses, professional contacts and members of the public across Staffordshire and Cheshire. Local businesses and organisations act as drop-off points, allowing members of the public to donate pre-loved winter coats.

The coats are then collected and distributed to homeless charities and organisations supporting people in need across Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding areas.

In 2023, C4C’s first year running, we we able to provide 500 coats to those in need. The response to our 2024 campaign was incredible. Together with our business friends, referrers and members of the local community, we collected 711 winter coats for those who would’ve otherwise gone without. Recently, in 2025, we achieved the collection of 977 coats!

We are incredibly proud of what the campaign has achieved and grateful to everyone who donated a coat, hosted a collection point or helped spread the word.

Egg Fest: Supporting Local Charities

In June 2024, Goddard Dunbar & Associates was proud to sponsor Egg Fest at the Foxlowe Arts Centre in Leek.

Egg Fest was held to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the passing of Alan “Egg” Embury, a much-loved member of the Leek community who sadly passed away at the age of just 47.

Alan was a good friend and school friend of our Managing Director, making the event particularly meaningful to our team and strengthening our connection to the local community.

The event raised an incredible £3,313, with the trustees deciding that the money should be donated to local charities in the Leek area – charities that Alan himself would have been proud to support.

It was decided in 2024 that £1,500 should be donated to Windmills, with £750 contributed by Goddard Dunbar & Associates and £750 from the Egg Fest funds. Windmills provides support to young people who have experienced the devastating loss of a parent. The charity’s work has a particular resonance with Alan’s story, as he lost his own mother at an early age.

It has taken a while for it to be decided as to where the rest of the funds are best donated, however in July 2026, the decision was made at the Blue Mugge pub in Leek. Horton Lodge Special Needs School received £2363 for their students aged 3-11 to purchase touch sensitive noise pads to help those children who struggle to move, to make music. They are also buying an electric piano to help some of the autistic children play music. The second charity chosen was Borderland Voices, who work in the Staffordshire Moorlands promoting mental health through arts by delivering accessible arts projects and offering creative space for self expression. They received the remaining £2363.

We were delighted to commit to matching the donations raised through Egg Fest, helping to ensure that the fundraising could have an even greater impact within the local community.
